What do we need to do between now and November 8th? Elissa Slotkin for Congress

Team,

Can you believe it? There are only TWO MONTHS to go until Election Day!

The finish line is in sight – so, what do we need to do between now and November 8th?

First things first: our ground game. We spent the summer building out volunteer networks in the new counties in the new 7th district – and now we’re putting them to use. Every weekend, we launch massive canvasses out of our campaign office or a community space in the new district. We gather volunteers together and then send them out to go knock on doors in strategic parts of the district. We’ve also built up our program at Michigan State, and have student organizers spreading the word about how easy it is to vote on campus! Want to volunteer with us? Sign up here!

Ensuring our ads are seen everywhere around the new district is another huge priority. They’re one of the best ways to spread Elissa’s message to the folks in the new district that haven’t had a chance to meet her yet. We’ve had four ads go up on the air and online since July 5th (see them all here), and we’ll be launching more in the weeks to come. In exciting news, the 60-day window prior to the election, in which TV stations must give candidates lower rates to advertise, begins tomorrow.  GOP super PACs have spent over $1 million *per week* in each of the last two weeks against me, with millions more in attack ads reserved over the next few weeks. Since TV stations set their own prices, they’ve majorly increased the cost of advertising in the last few weeks in preparation for rates to go down – definitely an unexpected road bump that we’ll be glad to see in the rear view window.

Finally, we have everyone’s least favorite task of the campaign home stretch: continuing to fundraise. We’ve spent the last year preparing to be competitive in these final months, which are by far the most expensive of the entire campaign. That money has gone into purchasing more ads, hiring additional organizers, printing campaign materials, and buying and distributing yard signs.

But, like that spike in ad prices we mentioned earlier, no matter how prepared we are, there are always unforeseen issues that pop up. Which is why we need to continue building the resources we need to be nimble, as we adapt to everything that gets thrown our way – and why we’re asking if you’d consider sending a contribution our way. We’re in the home stretch, and we’ll be keeping our foot on the gas until November 8th!
