During the August District work period Tom checked in with local manufacturers across New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District to discuss how the CHIPS and Science Act and Inflation Reduction Act will spur local manufacturing and job creation here in the 7th District.
Tom started his manufacturers tour by meeting with leadership at Messer at its operations center in Stewartsville. Messer was a leader in supplying medical oxygen to New Jerseyans at the height of the pandemic. Tom had the opportunity to tour their facility and learn about solutions to the critical helium shortage.
At its Bloomsbury facility, QuVa Pharma employs 400+ skilled technicians and pharmacists to make pharmaceutical ingredients more administrable for hospitals. Tom toured the facility and spoke with leadership who are working hard to provide professional development opportunities for their staff and meet the needs of New Jersey’s hospitals.
For 50 years, Precision Graphics Inc. has been manufacturing modern electronics. This family business has generations of history, with nearly 20% of their team being employed for over 25 years. Tom visited their facility in Branchburg to talk with team members about the recently enacted CHIPS and Science Act and view some of their current projects — including a motherboard for self-driving lawn mower.
Tom stopped by Intertek Labs to meet with President Mary La Bella in Stirling. Thanks to the CHIPS and Science Act, New Jersey companies like Intertek will continue innovating and engineering products for the aerospace and automotive industry.
To finish off his manufacturing tour, Tom met with leadership of II-VI Incorporated Optoelectronic Devices in Warren. The company is one of just nine microchip manufacturing facilities in the state. They discussed how the company is working to move toward more modern microchips and materials that waste less energy than standard silicone. The semiconductor industry employs more than 3,000 people in New Jersey – a number that will grow as a result of the CHIPS and Science Act.
