John: We are just two months away from Election Day, and we know it will be a battle to defend our frontline SEEC members, including our Vice Chair, Rep. Matt Cartwright (PA-08).
He is one of only a handful of Democrats who won districts that Donald Trump also won. While many swing seat Democrats are afraid to be bold on the environment, Rep. Cartwright has been a leader in fighting for common-sense, pro-environment policies that bring his community into a clean energy future.
Rep. Cartwright knows we don’t have to choose between a strong economy and a healthy climate. We can have both.
Take the Inflation Reduction Act, for example. It provides a tax credit that can cover up to 30% of the costs for installing solar panels and energy storage systems and updating homes to be energy efficient, which is projected to result in an estimated 610,000 Pennsylvanian homes converting to solar energy.
The Pennsylvania eighth congressional district has already created 7,000 clean energy jobs in an area once defined by the coal mining industry. Now with the estimated $270 million allocated to large-scale clean power generation and storage projects in Pennsylvania,Rep. Cartwright’s district will become a vital region for expanding renewable energy capabilities and jobs in the Keystone State.
Rep. Cartwright has been a bold fighter, but Republicans are laser-focused on stealing this swing seat in November. Polls have shown this race is tightening, and we cannot risk having his Republican opponent, who’s 100% against green policies, step foot in Congress.
Thanks to your help in 2020, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 117th Congress while we undo the damage of the Trump Administration.
