It’s one thing for a political candidate to openly hold extreme, anti-choice positions. It’s another to hold them in private but refuse to admit them to voters. That’s exactly what Mike’s opponent is doing.
When asked by newspapers like the Orange County Register and the San Diego Union-Tribune about his views on choice, Brian Maryott has been evasive. But we uncovered an endorsement survey he completed in 2020 and other materials that show where he really stands.
In a survey for the anti-choice website iVoterGuide.com, Brian Maryott indicates that life “begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.” It’s a fringe position leading to the elimination of abortion with no exceptions for rape, incest, or the mother's life. After the Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade, protecting reproductive autonomy is squarely on the ballot. We cannot risk handing this seat — or the House majority — to those with positions on choice that are totally out of the mainstream.

In the past couple of months, we’ve seen voters repeatedly reject anti-choice candidates and abortion bans — even in red states like Kansas. Now, a growing number of far-right candidates are recognizing that the public rejects their anti-choice positions, so they’re trying to hide or downplay those positions, just as Maryott will try to do.
