Team, I just spoke on the floor of the House about why I'm voting today to impeach President Trump.

Bribing a foreign government to dig up dirt on a political opponent is an unconstitutional abuse of power and illegal. Congress is a co-equal branch of government, and President Trump's obstruction of Congress to cover up his crimes is a violation of the Constitution he swore to uphold.

Faced with such clear evidence of both his abuse of power and his obstruction of Congress to cover it up, my choice is clear: President Trump must be removed from office.

Truthfully, it isn't a choice at all: I swore an oath to support and defend our Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic. No matter how many times Trump breaks his, I'll never fail to uphold mine.

Next month, the Senate will also take an oath, to "[...] do impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws, so help me God." History will judge whether they uphold that oath -- I hope you will, too.

In the meantime, thank you for your continued support. With all that lies ahead, I'm grateful to have you in my corner.

Yours In Service,

Congressman Gerry Connolly

Virginia's 11th District
