In the wake of July’s horrific mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, Democrats in the U.S. House proposed two legislative responses—both of which garnered bipartisan support.

The first, known as the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act , was the most comprehensive gun safety reform legislation since the Federal Assault Weapons Ban in 1994. Ann Wagner, along with 189 members of her caucus, voted No.

The second major gun safety bill had strong support from law enforcement, including traditionally “conservative” groups like the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP). The Active Shooter Alert Act of 2022 was simple and straightforward: it would create an Amber Alert-type system for emergencies that involved an active shooter. Forty-three Republicans voted for this bill; Ann Wagner, however, voted No.

Missourians like their guns. Hunting, in particular, is a treasured activity for many families statewide. But Missourians also respect law enforcement. And when police come together to say, “this commonsense bill would improve public safety and make our patrols safer,” they expect their politicians to listen.

Wagner isn’t listening to them—neither Missourians nor law enforcement. She hasn’t listened for quite some time, if ever. But she does snap to it when the NRA comes calling. She maintains an A+ rating from the NRA for voting in their interests 100% of the time—all of which ensures that their campaign funding spigot stays on full throttle for her each election year.

Ann Wagner has become an ally of Marjorie Taylor Greene and an advocate of the “Defund the FBI” MAGA crowd. Her extremist views put students and other potential victims of gun violence in danger.
