As news of the crackdown on Uighurs in China makes headlines around the world, Uighur-American Ferkat Jawdat took to the main stage at Trust Conference to share his family’s story. Ferkat left his native Xinjiang 13 years ago in search of a better life in the United States, unaware that he would not see his mother again or that she would spend more than 15 months in a Chinese ‘re-education’ camp. Over the past year, he has decided to make it his mission to speak up.
