I have a personal favor to ask of you today. My good friend Rep. Jahana Hayes is up for re-election in my old congressional district — Connecticut’s 5th, and I just found out that the House Republican Super PAC booked $2 million in advertising this fall to defeat Jahana.

$2 million is A TON of money for a congressional seat with one media market. It’s clear House Republicans don’t believe they can win back the majority without beating my friend Jahana.

So this is a must-win race, and she needs as much support as possible to get across the finish line.

Will you please split a $3 donation between Jahana Hayes’ re-election and my campaign today to help us defend the House and Senate majorities? We have an official FEC deadline later this month, so your support couldn’t come at a more important moment.

As Jahana has said before, her story is her truth. And it’s an incredible story if you haven’t heard it before.

She grew up in Waterbury’s housing projects, raised by her grandmother as her mom struggled with addiction. Jahana became a teenage mother at age 17 and thought about giving up. But she didn’t. She went back to school, became a game-changing teacher, and amazingly, in 2016, President Obama awarded her the National Teacher of the Year.

The thing about Jahana is that she didn’t stop there. She saw an opportunity in 2018 to do even more for our state by running for Congress. She won a tough race that year and became the first Black woman to represent Connecticut in Congress.

Since she came to Congress, she’s proven herself to be an invaluable member of the Connecticut delegation — a critical voice in passing the first gun safety legislation in 30 years, the Inflation Reduction Act, a massive infrastructure bill, and so much more.

We are all better off because of her leadership and work in Congress, and now it’s our turn to have her back and make sure she wins re-election.

So please, it would mean a lot to me personally if you could split a donation of $3 or whatever you can afford between Jahana Hayes and my campaign today. We cannot let super PACs drown her out with dark money attack ads.
