Inspired by a desire to meet the growing demands of our community, we embarked on a journey to guide Adhikaar's vision for the next decade. With the support of expert consultant Helen Kim, this effort kicked off in 2020. We talked to over 130 members, partner organizations, allies and funders to receive feedback about our work. Together, we contextualized, visioned and planned for Adhikaar’s next phase of growth. We have emerged a stronger, more powerful organization with a Strategic Alignment Plan to anchor our work. Through thoughtful deliberation, group discussions and 1-1 conversations, we emerged with five key priorities to build community power:
- Center the leadership of our members. When immigrant women workers gain the skills to advocate for themselves and their communities, equitable and inclusive policies are created that benefit all of us.
- Strengthen our position as an advocacy powerhouse for our communities. We have the lived experience and the political expertise within our staff and members to build and drive workers’ rights and immigration justice movements from the grassroots.
- Expand our member base and impact beyond New York City. There are Nepali-speaking communities across the country who share our passion and commitment to build community power “with us, by us” — we’re ready to scale up.
- Deepen the leadership and training of our team of staff, board members, and volunteers to meet the growing needs and demands of our community.
- Increase our investment in organizational infrastructure and systems to sustain Adhikaar’s growth.
