Exploring the Nexus between Gender, Climate Security, and Migration


Join Women In International Security and the Embassy of Liechtenstein, Washington DC, on September 9th at 1 PM (EDT) for a virtual panel discussion focusing on the intersection of these topics and to explore how diversity, equality, inclusiveness, and access (DEIA) can advance our understanding of the complex dynamics in the gender, climate change, and migration nexus.


This event will feature opening remarks from H.E. Ambassador Georg Sparber (Ambassador of Liechtenstein to the U. S.) and Ariela Blätter (President and CEO, Women In International Security) and will be followed by a roundtable discussion with Dr. Marisa O. Ensor(Senior Fellow, Institute for the Study of International Migration, School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University), Maryruth Belsey Priebe (Non-Resident Women, Peace, and Security Fellow, Pacific Forum), and Ilhan Dahir(Research Associate, Protecting Civilians in Conflict Program at the Stimson Center). The event will be moderated by Dr. Maxinne Rhea Leighton (President, WIIS New York and Director of Marketing and Business Development, Jaros, Baum & Bolles).

WIIS Poland Launches New Mentorship Program


WIIS Poland, with the generous support of Northrop Grumman Corporation (NGC), is proud to announce the launch of their new mentorship program. The WIIS Poland – NGC Women Mentoring Program 2022-2023 is open to female students and young graduates studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics who are interested in pursuing careers in the field of international security, defense and peace studies. Over the course of a year, students and graduates will be connected with experienced mentors and will receive individual mentorship and participate in skills-building workshops. The program will conclude with mentees and mentors participating in the 2023 Warsaw Security Forum.

Restoring Deterrence: Coercion and Crises in Southern Asiais a free online course produced by the Stimson Center's South Asia Program's Strategic Learning initiative. This course goes beyond academic theory and policy jargon to offer students the analytical tools necessary to assess the roles that coercion and deterrence play in Southern Asia. It covers deterrence relationships in the context of the “strategic chain” in Southern Asia, including China, India, and Pakistan, and explores deterrence concepts, crisis risks among nuclear-armed states, and key crisis case studies.

Call for Papers: Legacies of Violence and War


The Journal of Security Studies has issued a call for papers and special issue proposals on the theme of Legacies of Violence and War. They welcome both completed individual papers as well as proposals for special issues/forums exploring a wide range of substantive research questions on the theme of this special call. Special issue proposals are due December 15, 2022. Individual papers (outside any proposed special issue) are due February 15, 2023.

Call for Papers: Digital Workshop on Localizing the Women Peace & Security Agenda Across Multiple Governance Challenges


The Global Transformations and Governance Challenges Programme at Leiden University will be hosting a digital workshop on January 26-27, 2023. This workshop will bring together scholars working on the implementation of the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda. Participants will be required to present a conference paper related to the topic of ‘Localizing the WPS Agenda’.
