There’s another big vote in Congress you need to pay attention to: Yesterday *75* House Democrats rejected the funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security because it failed to rein in Trump’s detention and deportation machine.

In February that number was only *19*.

Immigrants, Jews and allies have organized for 3 years to say ‘No blank checks to Trump to hurt immigrants’ and to interrupt his cruelty by blocking funding to ICE and CBP.

While yesterday’s vote won’t stop Trump’s policies (that’s what 2020 is for), we’ve built a powerful Jewish movement to defund hate and changed the conversation this year alongside our partners — moving dozens more Members of Congress to take a stand. We won’t stop until we stop Trump and win justice for immigrants.

Today, the House is voting to impeach President Trump for abuse of power in the Ukraine affair and obstruction of Congress. But we know that’s just one example of how he’s abused his power and assaulted the rule of law during his time in office.

This year started with Trump shutting down the government (remember that?) — holding 800,000 workers, and the lives of vulnerable immigrants, hostage to pay for a racist wall.

Bend the Arc leaders visited, called, and lobbied their members of Congress to make sure they wouldn’t cave to Trump’s demands.

The Defund Hate coalition taught Trump shutting down the government won’t get him what he wants. 

Since then, the coalition has succeeded in blocking BILLIONS of dollars requested by Trump to fund detention, deportation, and raids.

Yesterday’s vote showed Trump we know the loopholes he uses to crash through our democracy (like transfer authority, which lets him raid emergency funds to build new camps). We’ll keep fighting to block those too, and to hold him accountable for all of his cruelty and corruption.
