So, yesterday I had to send the Team Kermit staff home.

A record-breaking heat dome reaching 116 degrees has spread across Northern California and our AC conveniently went out. With the heat and wildfire smoke across the district, it’s made it impossible for our volunteers to canvass. For the safety of our volunteers and staff, we closed our office for the first time.

We’re working on repairing the AC today, but in the meantime, we’ve lost countless volunteer shifts. Due to the heat and smoke, we’ve had almost zero direct voter contact in the past 10 days.

We usually reach hundreds of voters a day, and with just one month before ballots are mailed, this is the worst possible time to shut our office down.

We’re going to have to increase our mail and digital advertisements to make up for this lost time. Can you chip in $5, $10, $25 – or any amount that makes sense for you – to help us keep reaching out to voters?

A reminder from Dr. Kermit: This heat dome is extremely dangerous. Keep yourself and your pets inside, drink water every 15 minutes, and seek shelter with air conditioning (if yours isn’t working, check out local community centers or malls). Note the electrical grid is reaching capacity with everyone using AC — the state is asking we lower our use by not running the laundry or dishwasher, keeping lights off, and waiting to charge EV cars until we get to lower temperatures this weekend.
