Hi Friend,
My name is Huzan, and I live in Pakistan and work for the IRC as the communications lead for my country. When I woke up today, I felt really compelled to write to you. I know you've seen the news of the flooding, but it's worse than what is being shown in the media.
Here's a snapshot of what's happening: This past weekend, the government had to breach a lake to save a city. The consequences — a village with a population of 150,000 was flooded. There are makeshift shelters across all major highways, but they offer little protection, especially for women and children.
In Sindh, a southeastern province, the situation is becoming more alarming by the second with water travelling southwards and more rains coming. There are already disease outbreaks in flooded areas. This is just some of what people in my country are facing.
Our teams here at the IRC are rapidly responding, but we need your help. We started responding in Balochistan in July and have since then expanded our response in all other provinces providing immediate support to communities, including the provision of medical camps, food, emergency supplies, dignity kits and safe spaces for women and girls.
I hope you will make an emergency donation to support our response to this crisis and others around the world. You can make a gift here: [link removed]
It's a personal struggle for me to see people in my country in such pain as they navigate this terrible situation. But I do find comfort in knowing that our supporters are here and willing to help. It's so needed. Thank you so much.
