There are staggering reports out today by Project FiveThirtyEight and the
Anti-Defamation League that detail the number of election-deniers and
extremists in government and local positions of high influence.
According to these reports, 195 Republican nominees on the ballot for
November have fully denied the 2020 election results. In addition, 61
candidates have questioned those results.
This alone isn’t a direct threat, but some of those individuals listed
have estimated chances of winning at around 95%.

To put it bluntly: in parts of the country, there may be individuals in
your city, state, and federal offices working against everything we have
fought for thus far. The insurrection on January 6th could be read as a
test run in the pages of our history.

The ADL report similarly reveals alarming data: self-proclaimed members of
the Oath Keepers have found their way into 81 current or hopeful offices.
Sheriffs, senators, county commissioners, and other positions are now in
the clutches of an extremist group that took part in the attack on the US
Capitol. And they will not stop with political power – this same report
identifies 373 members as part of law enforcement as well. In addition,
military personnel, teachers, and even doctors are listed in this report.
People identifying as a part of the fringe are coming out of the woodwork.
They are in every facet of normal day-to-day American living.
There is a real and tangible risk associated with these numbers. The
fabric of our social structure is under attack by the worst examples of
humanity, and we are toeing a fine line with democracy. The precedent for
the unstable right-wing has already been set with the events of January
6th. Our presently fragile system cannot take on a secondary attempt with
fake electors, attempted coups, and sowing more doubt in the electoral
system.
If we can defend our majority this fall, we will have a broader
opportunity to do so in the near future. If we can ADD to that majority,
then we can create a foundation for combating extremism for years to come.
We do not have the time to lose because it will cost us everything.

getting the message of progress to echo through the halls of government
