We want to give AG Ken Paxton the benefit of the doubt here.
Sure, on paper it might seem like AG Paxton is a power-hungry right-wing conspiracy theorist who worships the ground that Donald Trump walks on and whose only goal in life is to hold onto power by whatever means necessary.
It might seem like that. But hey, he’s trying his best.
So, in the name of sportsmanship, we’re going to throw Ken a bone here and share a few reasons why re-electing Ken Paxton is... *sighs even louder* ...a good idea.
He tries really hard – especially on taking away Texans’ rights!
He’s certainly trying his best to make sure his constituents don’t have autonomy over their own bodies. He’s trying to make sure that it’s incredibly difficult for Texans to vote.
Sure, the things he’s trying to do are objectively cruel and uncalled for. But he’s definitely trying. If being attorney general was at all like being on a youth soccer team, we would definitely give AG Paxton a participation trophy.
He’s a good friend!
Ken Paxton was indicted in 2015 for abusing the power of his office to help a wealthy donor. Plus he recently attended a fundraiser with his good friend President Trump where donations to attend ranged up to $50,000! Who doesn't love someone who makes time for their friends?
Some people may say that defrauding the public to help out wealthy campaign supporters makes him unfit for office, but our parents taught us that it’s important to help out a friend in need.
Sure, by “friend”, our parents probably didn’t mean a multi-millionaire conservative mega-donor or twice-impeached president trying to manipulate the political system. But you can never know for sure.
That’s it. We give up, this is too hard.
Okay, we’ll be honest, we couldn’t come up with three reasons, even ironically. AG Paxton has shown repeatedly for the past seven years that he’s only interested in helping himself and the people who keep him in power.
We have a chance to elect a civil rights attorney and advocate for abortion rights in Rochelle Garza as the next Texas AG, and we absolutely need to capitalize on it by investing in digital ads and grassroots organizing efforts this fall.
