Christian bakers Aaron and Melissa Klein, owners of Sweet Cakes by
Melissa, are taking their case to the U.S. Supreme Court. First
Liberty submitted a petition last week asking the nation's
highest court to hear their case.

We're asking the Court to reverse a state court decision that
effectively forced the Kleins to shut down their family bakery. They
declined to create a custom cake for a same-sex wedding because doing
so would have forced them convey a message that conflicted with their
religious beliefs. An Oregon state agency ruled that the Kleins
violated the state's public accommodations law and imposed a
devastating financial penalty against them.

Such blatant hostility is unconstitutional. The Supreme Court has long
protected the right to speak freely and hold different beliefs. The
First Amendment protects all Americans, of different perspectives and
beliefs, from being forced to use their art to send messages that
violate their deeply held religious beliefs.

This is the second time we've asked the Supreme Court to review
this important case. After our first appeal in 2019, the Court
returned the case to the Oregon courts with a clear mandate to
reconsider their opinion.

In response, the Oregon state courts concluded that the state agency
did not act with neutrality toward their religious beliefs. That
should have been the end of the case. But instead, the court sent the
case back to the same biased agency.

We hope that the Supreme Court will hear the Kleins' case and
clarify that all Americans have a constitutional right to due process,
free speech and religious liberty. After nearly a decade, it's
time to endĀ Oregon's hostility toward Aaron and Melissa.

Winning this major case at the Supreme Court won't just deliver
sweet justice for Aaron, Melissa and their family. It could set a
precedent protecting millions of religious Americans from being forced
to violate their beliefs or lose their businesses.

Aaron and Melissa deserve justice. With your support, we can deliver a
victory for them and countless business owners facing the threat of
being canceled. No American should lose their business, their
livelihood or their job for living out their faith.

Please donate to First Liberty today and help replenish our resources
as we enter the final phase of this critical battle.
