A New Chapter: AB 2011 Advances!

Last week, AB 2011 (Wicks) officially passed the Senate and Assembly! AB 2011 is an important step for our industry as it signals a new chapter for affordable housing solutions!

The bill now sits at the Governor’s desk awaiting a final signature before becoming law. In the meantime join us in thanking Senator Buffy Wicks for her leadership and the collective action powering this win.

Don’t miss these upcoming trainings during the month of September:

  • Electoral Communications (c3 approved!), Thursday, September 15, 12:00PM – 1:00PM PT Join NPH's Strategic Communications Council and Bay Rising as we review how c3 nonprofits can legally engage in advocacy within their unique capacities and roles. This training will review specific communications channels, messages, and engagement examples you can employ to advance pro-justice messages for the 2022 election cycle!
     
  • Resident Services Peer Sharing Call, Friday, September 23, 2022, 12:00PM - 1:00pm PT (For resident services staff only) Do you want to connect with other on-site staff serving affordable housing residents in the Bay Area? Do you want to know how other programs are going? Join our peer sharing call to share opportunities, challenges, and more! 
 

New CAVE Cohort Begins Next Month!

 
CAVE Cohort schedule

The fifth cohort of NPH’s Community Advocacy & Voter Engagement (CAVE) Certification Program begins on October 20 and continues through November 18! Through CAVE, participants will gain strategies for how to help create a culture and practice of advocacy within your affordable housing community, empowering residents to participate in elections and policy outcomes that directly impact their lives.

It’s been a busy summer at NPH and we’re excited to announce a few exciting updates to our team! Our Executive Assistant Molly Marsh has been promoted to Executive Operations & Advocacy Compliance Manager where she supports all operations pertaining to the Executive Director's office and manages the work involving the NPH Action Fund. I’ve also recently been recognized for my growing leadership in the organization with a promotion to Digital Communications Manager!

This person will be responsible for overseeing NPH’s public information efforts to advance narrative, cultural, storytelling, and engagement strategy to advance housing and racial justice in the San Francisco Bay Area.

9/17, EBHO: Annual Interfaith Breakfast Join East Bay Housing Organizations at the First Presbyterian Church of Berkeley for coffee, breakfast, musical entertainment, and a conversation about intersectionality and housing justice.

9/23, RUN: Bay Area 2022 Regional Convening Residents United Network is hosting their fall regional convening, better known as “There Ought To Be A Law,” to begin RUN’s priority-setting process. Join new and veteran RUN members from all over the state as we brainstorm what should be a law in 2023.

 

9/29, Greenbelt Alliance: Hidden Heroes of the Greenbelt Join the Greenbelt Alliance for a virtual benefit that honors the bold leaders in local government working to ensure greater climate resilience for the Bay Area.

10/21, HLC: Housing Leadership Day For over 20 years, Housing Leadership Day has provided the space for housers to exchange the knowledge and tools needed to mobilize and ultimately bring more affordable homes to our neighborhoods. Join the Housing Leadership Council of San Mateo as they highlight their partnership and power to heal and transform our communities.

 

10/22, Enterprise: 40th Anniversary National Conference: Join Enterprise as they celebrate 40 years by bringing together leaders, advocates, and innovators in affordable housing to tackle today’s most pressing issues and prepare for the future.

Building Movement Project: Race to Lead Survey The Race to Lead Survey is back! This year, the survey addresses some of the major social issues of the past few years, including COVID-19, the racial uprisings of summer 2020, and shifts in the political landscape.
