NEWS FROM POWER TO DECIDE

Stay Informed and Show Your Support for Abortion Access with New Merch

As the state of abortion access changes following the Supreme Court’s decision to end federal protections of abortion rights, Abortion Finder ([link removed]) regularly updates our State-By-State Guide ([link removed]) on abortion laws; statewide and regional resources to assist with costs, travel, and more; and information on finding the nearest verified provider.

If you want to show your support for Abortion Finder—and abortion access in general—we’ve got you covered. From fancy lapel pins ([link removed]) , informative palm cards ([link removed]) , and (free!) stickers ([link removed]) you can find all our swag at our online store ([link removed]) .

Protecting Reproductive Health and Rights

Congress has also been busy this summer introducing a variety of bills to affirm and strengthen federal protections for reproductive health care. What can you do to support Congressional efforts to protect reproductive health and rights post-Dobbs? Read our newest policy blog ([link removed]) to learn more about all the legislation recently introduced in Congress and what you can do to support access to reproductive health care. After you finish the blog, urge your representatives ([link removed]) to support these important bills.

Recognizing World Contraception Day

World Contraception Day—celebrated annually on September 26—is a day dedicated to celebrating what birth control makes possible for people all over the world. This year we are celebrating World Contraception Day ([link removed]) by highlighting all the different ways that people can access the birth control method that works best for them, and, of course, by shouting #ThxBirthControl ([link removed]) across social media.

Are You Listening?

Crossing the Line ([link removed]) is an audio documentary series telling stories from the frontlines in the fight for reproductive freedom. Each immersive episode allows the listener to experience the numerous barriers faced by those attempting to access reproductive healthcare in the US; in a recent episode we met 39-year-old Pakistani mother of 2, Samira, on her journey for a safe abortion.

Subscribe ([link removed]) wherever you listen to podcasts and keep your ears open to catch Dr. Raegan, our CEO, and Rachel Fey, our VP of Policy and Strategic Partnerships, who are featured in several episodes.

POLICY UPDATES

Biden-Harris Administration Issues New Guidance on Contraception Coverage and Abortion Care

Recently the US Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) released updated guidance ([link removed]) in response to mounting evidence—including a recent report from Power to Decide ([link removed]) —that health insurance companies have been failing to provide coverage for the full range of birth control options with no out-of-pocket expense, as required by the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Power to Decide applauded ([link removed]) the Biden-Harris administration and HHS for taking this important step in reaffirming the standards outlined in the ACA, including the requirement that health insurance companies provide a transparent and easy-to-use exceptions process to help patients get coverage for the contraceptive method that works best for them
in cases when it is not typically covered by their plan.

In August, the Biden-Harris administration announced another executive order ([link removed]) to protect access to abortion and other reproductive health care during the first meeting of the Task Force on Reproductive Healthcare Access. Read Power to Decide’s press release ([link removed]) for more details on the most recent executive order

State Policy Updates

In the two plus months since the Dobbs decision, more state abortion bans have gone into effect. Advocates and providers continue to mount legal challenges to these bans. In short, the situation in some states is changing quickly. Through it all, Power to Decide’s Abortion Finder ([link removed]) remains the most up-to-date and accurate resource on where patients can receive abortion care. You can find the legal status of abortion in all 50 states by visiting Abortion Finder’s State-by-State Guide ([link removed]) .

In addition, Power to Decide has released contraceptive landscape fact sheets ([link removed]) for Louisiana ([link removed]) and Mississippi ([link removed]) , as part of our Advancing Contraceptive Access Toolkit ([link removed]) .

GENEROUS SUPPORT FROM OUR SPONSORS

We believe in a future where everyone can pursue the future they want, realize their full potential, and follow their intentions. As attacks on reproductive health care increase, so does the demand for contraception. Yet, for millions of people across the country, access to birth control is out of reach. But, together, we can change that. By making a gift to BCBenefits, a contraceptive access fund, you can help provide access to free or low-cost birth control methods and appointments to people with limited incomes.

Together, we can ensure access to birth control for those who need it most. Donate today ([link removed]) .
