Here's the bottom line, John. Whatever we do, whether small or large actions, we must do it now.
John,
Up to one in six tree species in North America is facing extinction.
That’s the shocking conclusion of a new study looking at growing numbers of invasive insects, a surge in deadly diseases for plant life, and the increasing menace of climate change.
The most at-risk trees for extinction include the world-famous redwoods, American chestnuts, black ash, and gnarled whitebark pine.
The new report calls it “plant blindness.” That’s what we have when we turn a blind eye to the plants surrounding us and the growing impact of climate change on their existence.
Our plant blindness means we are devoting fewer resources to the organisms supplying oxygen for our planet, feeding our animals, and, crucially, storing more carbon than humans will discharge in ten years.
And our window of opportunity to save them is closing fast.
We can plant native species in our gardens and volunteer in local woodlands. We can avoid transporting firewood or other materials carrying dangerous pests. State and local communities can implement policies protecting existing forests. And we can elect candidates that will fight to end the burning of fossil fuels.
Here's the bottom line, John. Whatever we do, whether small or large actions, we must do it now.
That’s why SEEC members are already working to protect our trees from extinction by passing bills to fund restoring ecosystems, protect public lands, and support the transition to a clean energy economy. They know action must happen now. Will you show your support for their efforts with a donation today?

Thanks to your help in 2020, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 117th Congress while we undo the damage of the Trump Administration.
