I have been working tirelessly to push solutions forward to clean up dangerous, “forever” chemicals known as PFAS from our communities. Now, that hard work has paid off. The Environmental Protection Agency announced that they will classify PFAS as a hazardous substance.

PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are man-made chemicals that don’t naturally break down. This means we are responsible for cleaning them up and changing the way we manufacture goods to avoid the PFAS problem from getting worse.
This election is a critical one. Within the new MI-06 district are several state house and state senate races that are going to come down to the margins. We also have critical races at the top of the ticket. Reaching voters in MI-06 could make the difference between winning these important races and flipping our state legislature blue.

The EPA’s announcement means that the agency will have better tools, better reporting, and a better response to get these chemicals out of our communities.

However, our work is far from over. I’m still working to urge the Senate and President Biden to pass the PFAS Action Act so our country can take more action to stop polluting our environment with PFAS.

I won’t stop fighting until we solve this problem. We can’t wait to clean up these “forever” chemicals because they won’t go away on their own. It’s time to get them out of our drinking water, our environment, and our manufacturing processes.
