Week-in-Review
Dear Mr. xxxxxx,
As I begin another busy week in Texas, I wanted to pass along my latest update on what I have been doing to fight for you, Texas’ 21st Congressional district, and our country as a whole:
Defending the 1st Amendment and religious freedom:
On Thursday, I sent a letter pressing the Austin Fire Department for answers after they allegedly fired their longtime volunteer lead chaplain for exercising his First Amendment rights. If true, these allegations create a troubling standard for the exercise of free speech and freedom of religion and are likely unconstitutional.
I also wrote an op-ed with Family Research Council President Tony Perkins defending the chaplain as he fights the Austin Fire Department in court. You can read our op-ed here.
Just one fentanyl pill can kill:
Last week I joined forces with Boerne ISD to warn students and parents of the dangers of fentanyl. Just one pill laced with fentanyl can kill, and teenagers and children are especially vulnerable. I am committed to helping our community stay safe amid the fentanyl crisis.
On September 7, Boerne ISD will host a panel titled “One Pill Can Kill” on the dangers of fentanyl and prescription drug abuse in Kendall County. Several local law enforcement figures will attend the event to speak to parents and students. The panel will begin at 6 p.m. in the Boerne High School Auditorium.

Meeting local leaders:
Last week Real County Judge Bella Rubio and I pitched in to pack more than 650 healthy meals at the San Antonio Food Bank!
On Thursday morning I had a productive discussion with the San Antonio Police Officers’ Association leadership team on public safety, local crime trends, and mental health. I was honored to thank them for their hard work keeping the San Antonio Community safe.
On Saturday, I gathered with several thousand great folks at the 38th Annual Doss Fish Fry in Gillespie County benefitting the Volunteer Fire Department!
Tele-Townhall on the 8th:
This Thursday, September 8th at 7 PM CT, I will host a tele-townhall. You can listen in on Thursday by clicking here.
Here are some news stories about what I’ve been up to lately:
