Friend – This is it. The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act finally has the 60 votes needed to pass in the Senate and make it to President Biden's desk to become law. All we need is a Senate vote this month. But, to our dismay, Senate leaders haven't prioritized PWFA for a vote. And I want to be clear: PWFA safeguards the health and economic security of pregnant workers, especially women of color and low-wage workers. It also combats pregnancy discrimination and ensures no one has to choose between a job and a healthy pregnancy. We need these protections now more than ever. That's why passing PWFA can't wait until "some later date" in the future. The fact that this bill hasn't even made it to the Senate floor for a vote yet – despite having the votes to pass – is unacceptable. But we are so close! This is the moment our hard work can pay off – we just need to give this push everything we've got. Can you send a quick email to your senators today and tell them to pass PWFA now? They need to hear from all of us that pregnant workers and families across the country must be a priority.
After ten years of hard work as a community – made up of my team at the ACLU, dedicated folks like you, and all of our coalition partners – PWFA is ready to go. The Senate can get PWFA across the finish line and deliver a badly-needed reproductive justice win. And your action today can and will make a huge difference in making this a reality. Thank you for your dedication, Vania Leveille |
