Biden ignores China's infiltration of US universitiesFederal and state legislatures should formulate laws to defend U.S. institutions of higher education from the influence of China and other foreign adversaries. Such legislation will not come overnight, however. In the meantime, elected officials and freedom-loving Americans of all stripes should push the Biden administration to actually enforce the law now on the books. As imperfect as the Section 117 reporting regime is, it is currently all we have, and the administration’s failure to enforce it makes us less safe. China is clearly interested in taking advantage of the abundant resources and materials at colleges and universities in the U.S. The least the Biden administration could do is offer sunlight on just how "interested" the CCP is. Unlike Biden’s, Heritage Foundation’s Budget Blueprint Charts Responsible Course for America – While Biden has attempted to blame Russian President Vladmir Putin, greedy corporations, and everyone but himself, the truth is that inflation and the economic downturn have been caused by bad government policies. The next Congress and the next administration need to chart a different course. That’s why The Heritage Foundation has released the Budget Blueprint, a comprehensive federal budget proposal for fiscal year 2023. The Budget Blueprint includes 230 specific policy reforms to roll back excessive government spending, reform and cut taxes, prioritize taxpayer dollars, improve major entitlement programs, restore federalism, promote opportunity for all, and protect rights and American values. It lays out a policy agenda that will allow policymakers to go on offense, address America’s most pressing challenges, and save our country. Heritage Expert: Matthew Dickerson

Joe Biden is Weaponizing Big Tech Against the American People – The past few weeks of whistleblowers and court discovery have revealed the Biden Administration’s deliberate weaponization of the power of Big Tech. After Joe Biden’s divisive speech that served as a declaration of war against more than 70 million “MAGA Republicans”, Americans can be certain that this censorship and aggression towards conservatives will only grow. The fight for the future of the internet is intertwined with the political battle for our country. As the radical left aggressively tries to consolidate power, the Administration will use internet against ordinary Americans to force us into submission. It is critical that lawmakers take decisive action to protect their constituents from political oppression. The future of the internet depends on bold leadership that is committed to protecting dissidents. The next few months will not only determine the direction of our country, but also the future of the internet. Heritage Experts: Will Thibeau and Jake Denton

Student Debt Cancellation: Another Non-Emergency ‘Emergency’ - You may not have known it, but student debt cancellation is a necessary emergency intervention. It is a $500 billion infusion of life-preserving first aid injected directly into the veins of our body politic by first-responder-in-chief, Joe Biden. At least that’s the take of the Department of Education’s Office of the General Counsel. The “major questions” doctrine may prove to be a hurdle for the administration if student debt cancellation is challenged in court. The HEROES Act nowhere states that the secretary has the unilateral power to erase debts. It is a mistake to think that manipulating the boundaries of emergencies is a viable means of addressing them. Legislative solutions, even incremental ones, better ensure solutions that are permanent, popular, and thus more impactful in the long run. Heritage Expert: Jack Fitzhenry

A Massive Economic Storm Is Already Overhead And Nobody Seems To NoticeThe biggest recessionary factor that should have alarm bells ringing is new orders for business, especially manufacturing, which are plummeting. Manufacturing surveys from Federal Reserve Banks in New YorkDallasPhiladelphia, and Richmond show new orders for business falling fast, in some cases at the fastest pace on record. The corresponding service sector surveys show similar trends with deteriorating business conditions and declining new orders. Why is this not front-page news? Probably because it is being hidden. There is no conspiracy here; it is largely a numerical fluke left over from the pandemic. Government-imposed lockdowns severely curtailed production throughout the economy and created countless supply chain disruptions. That caused new orders at businesses to pile up, creating a record backlog of unfilled orders. Today, those businesses are rapidly working through their unfilled orders, hiring additional employees to do so. Even though new orders coming in are declining fast, current output is still increasing, and the hiring spree continues. With nearly all the kinks worked out of the supply chain, the only missing ingredient for many businesses is labor. Heritage Expert: EJ Antoni

The Federal Gov’s Bungled Census Is Bad News For Red States. Here’s Why Ordering the Census Bureau to conduct another actual recount in the 14 affected states would be a complex, expensive undertaking that would provide numbers on a different date than the original census whose population totals from April 1, 2020, would still be in effect for the rest of the states, raising fundamental fairness issues given the high mobility of our population. And ordering a new census of the entire nation also seems impractical. But there is no question Congress needs to get to the bottom of what happened. It must use its oversight authority to investigate the Census Bureau, its methods, procedures and operations to determine how and why these errors happened. We have to ensure that the necessary changes are made that won’t allow this to happen again. Heritage Expert: Hans von Spakovsky
