Jack, the defamation lawsuit that Dominion Voting Systems, the voting machine company at the center of many right-wing conspiracy theories, has brought against Fox News has unearthed some of the inner workings of the right-wing cable news network.

During the discovery process, an email from a producer in 2020 shed light on how much the cable network knew before adding fuel to the dumpster fire of lies surrounding the election results. In particular, a producer warned Fox News executives of Jeanne Pirro's unhinged theories saying:

Fox cannot let host Jeanine Pirro back on the air. She is pulling conspiracy theories from dark corners of the Web to justify then-President Donald Trump's lies that the election had been stolen from him.

This is bad journalism and executives at the cable network knew it. Nonetheless, they fed their audience lie after lie about the election results in the guise of "fair and balanced" journalism. Their audience ate it up, believing every word. Fox News' ratings remained high while our democracy was being threatened.

The problem is that right-wing media, like Fox News, dwarfs progressive outlets, with a huge reach and influence over the American population. Fox News has been the highest rated cable news outlet for years.

Daily Kos is one of the largest progressive news outlets in the country, but we need to be much, much bigger in order to more effectively debunk right-wing lies that are threatening our democracy.
