It’s Primary Day here in Massachusetts, so I wanted to send you one last note before polls close later tonight.

Today, I’m thinking back to when I ran for office 8 years ago as a first-time, underdog candidate. Before I ran, I had led the Civil Rights Division at the AG’s Office. At the AG’s office, I led the first successful state challenge to the Defense of Marriage Act and took on big banks in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis.

I saw the power the government holds when it comes to helping people and protecting their rights. So I asked the people of Massachusetts to take a chance on me, and ran for Attorney General. In return, I promised we’d work together in the Attorney General’s Office to tackle the biggest issues facing our families.

Together, we won a race that many others viewed as a long shot — but that was just the first challenge we faced as a team. We went on to hold powerful corporations like Purdue Pharma, ExxonMobil, and Navient accountable. We returned over $7 billion to taxpayers. Now I’ve endorsed Andrea Campbell for Attorney General, because I know she’ll continue to build on the work that we’ve done so far.

We’re facing new challenges. The cost of living keeps rising and too many families across the state are struggling to get by. Our infrastructure needs help, and climate change is threatening our economy. But I haven’t backed down from a challenge yet, and I won’t start now.

As your next Governor, I promise to lead just like I have the past 8 years: with teamwork, grit, and compassion. But first things first, we have to win this race. If you’re a Massachusetts voter, remember that polls close at 8:00 PM, but if you’re in line by then, you can stay in line. Please remind your friends and family to get out and vote for Andrea Campbell and me today, and let’s build a Massachusetts that works for every family.

Today is a big day for our movement, but tomorrow we have to be able to ramp up our campaign quickly and reach voters across the state.

I’d be honored if you could support our campaign to bring Massachusetts together, and move our state forward.
