When she was a student at Spelman, she saw tuition was increasing but her financial aid wasn’t, so she headed straight to the school’s board meeting and demanded an explanation — and then stayed in the room until she and other students were properly supported.

She was a leader in the Georgia House of Representatives as the first Black Minority Leader, where she navigated an incredibly difficult political landscape and worked hard to pass substantive bipartisan legislation for Georgians.

After the 2018 campaign, she could have stopped fighting. But she’s never given up on Georgia — so she fought voter suppression and helped turn Georgia blue for the first time in a generation.

And now she’s running to become the next governor of Georgia — and the first Black woman governor in our nation’s history.
