John,
This week, children return to school across the country, but mixed into the anticipation and excitement of the time is the insidious fear of gun violence in schools.
You see, our classrooms have turned into battlefields instead of places of learning. There have been 27 school shootings this year alone, including the unconscionable tragedy at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, TX. Students there returned to school today, but to different buildings and a new reality.
Even after 21 children and educators were senselessly gunned down in their classroom, too many of our elected leaders refuse to act or focus on the wrong solutions. Governor Greg Abbott has loosened Texas gun laws in recent years, in fact. Instead of lifesaving legislation, all that has been done to protect students is adding locks, fences, and police to schools.
John, these are not the lifesaving solutions that we need – but we know exactly what can save lives: Banning assault weapons.
Add your name to our petition and demand the Senate ban assault weapons and save lives. >> [[link removed]]
In 1994, Brady helped pass the original assault weapons ban – and mass shootings decreased. In 2004, the ban expired, and the NRA’s deadly influence blocked it from being renewed. Since then mass shootings have increased by over 300%.
The House passed an assault weapons ban and we urgently need the Senate to follow suit – to protect our children and all Americans. Students are back in school and that means that l ives are at risk if we don't take action now.
We need these weapons of war off our streets, so we're asking all of our grassroots activists to make it undeniably clear that it's time for change. Please, we only need a few more signatures on our urgent petition calling on the Senate to ban assault weapons and end mass shootings and your name is missing.
Will you add your name and demand lifesaving action from the Senate? [[link removed]]
