Trump Just Stopped Hitting America's Head with a Trade-War Hammer |
Bruce Yandle | The Washington Examiner |
|
It is worth celebrating last week's breakthrough in the ongoing trade dispute between the US and China. Ending the strategy of reciprocal tariffs is especially good news for the US manufacturing sector, farmers, and holiday shoppers. While there is still more to be done at least the US has stopped causing self-harm by continuing this trade war. |

Esther Duflo on Management, Growth, and Research in Action |
Esther Duflo and Tyler Cowen | Conversations with Tyler |
|
Esther Duflo advises governments on how best to reduce poverty, having co-founded one of the leading policy research centers in the world. For that work, together with that of frequent collaborators Abhijit Banerjee and Michael Kremer, she has now been honored with the Nobel Prize. She joined Tyler to discuss her findings, including how coaching increases the effectiveness of cash transfers, why she cautions against falling in love with growth rates, the management philosophy behind her success building J-PAL, how she briefly became the face of an anti-Soviet revolution, the underlooked reasons behind the decline of geographic mobility in the US, and more. |

For Rural and Underserved Communities,
Stop Blocking Care |
Robert F. Graboyes | Inside Sources |
|
Health care can be difficult to obtain for many Americans. This has little to do with whether or not they have insurance, but rather the distribution of medical resources, the patient's environment, and barriers to innovation. Some rural counties don’t have a single doctor, while others lack hospitals and emergency rooms. Some face language barriers, long travel times, and possible loss of wages if they miss work to see a doctor. What can be done? Congress should explore these methods when looking for policy solutions to improve health care delivery. |
