The Senate Project could take us national

Dear
Jack,

Thank you for your interest in and support of the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate. I have served as the Chairman of the Board since the spring of 2020, and am very excited about our newest initiative, the Senate Project ([link removed]) , which has the potential to elevate the Kennedy Institute from a locally-focused organization to one that has national impact.

With the goal of bringing sitting Senators together in Oxford-style debates to find common ground, the program launched this past June, bringing together Senators Lindsay Graham and Bernie Sanders. The event was broadcast nationally by Fox Nation and was picked up by media around the world. No single effort by the Kennedy Institute has ever generated this much media attention and it suggests that our platform can be expanded to have national reach and impact.

To this end, we built a partnership with the Orrin G. Hatch Foundation and the Bipartisan Policy Center, and began planning for a series of such debates. After the initial launch event in June, we held a second debate between Senators Rob Portman and Chris Murphy in August, and are currently planning our third debate for early January.

By engaging in these debates, these Senators have shown that, despite their ideological differences, they still believe in bipartisanship and civil discourse even in these divisive times. We will continue this Senate Project series and keep making the case for a return to more civil political dialogue.

We need continued financial support from friends such as you to keep this program, and all of our programs, going strong. Thank you in advance for making a contribution through the link below.

Sincerely,

Bruce A. Percelay
Chairman of the Board of Directors
