Americans Aren’t Fooled

What to Know: Impeachment is “no longer big news” to most Americans, which is bad news for the Democrats.

The TPPF Take: In their single-minded focus on impeachment, Democrats are neglecting the work they were sent to Washington to do—such as pass the new trade agreement with Canada and Mexico.

“It might be — in the Democrats’ eyes — a short-term political win, but tanking the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement (USMCA) would cause lasting damage U.S. producers — including Texas farmers and ranchers,” says TPPF’s Kevin Roberts. “The Democrats make a serious mistake if they think scuttling the free trade deal will win them any points in the heartland — in the districts they say they represent.”

Predictable

What to Know: Time magazine’s choice of teen climate activist Greta Thunberg was “entirely predictable,” says Dana Perino.

The TPPF Take: Government overreach is a much more realistic threat than the ecological doom prophesized by Greta Thunberg and the United Nations.

“The hysteria over climate change has gone so far that many students my age are striking — skipping school every Friday to protest global warming, and demanding government action,” says Emma Roberts, daughter of TPPF’s Kevin Roberts. “But the result of ceding control to government will be that we’ll have no choice in what job we have, no choice in what car we drive, and no choice in the price we pay for our electricity. That’s not freedom.”

Food Stamps

What to Know: U.S. Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez says the Trump administrations new rules for food stamps would have left her family starving.

The TPPF Take: AOC’s family wouldn’t have been affected by the new rules, which only reinstitute work requirements for able-bodied, working-age recipients who have no dependents.

“The goal of the Welfare Reform Act of 1996 helped move millions of Americans from dependence to the dignity of work,” says TPPF’s James Quintero. “Since then, state legislatures have gamed the system. The new rules merely restore the gains that we made in welfare reform.”
