Yesterday, many of us celebrated Labor Day — the unofficial end to summer, a day filled with parades and cookouts. Labor Day in America celebrates the achievements of labor unions and workers' organizations, so we wanted to take today to highlight two of our grantees organizing for working people on the ground in two of our partner states.
Mississippi Workers' Center in Greenville, MS For over 25 years, the Mississippi Workers' Center has organized and advocated for low-wage workers in the Mississippi Delta. Driven by the belief that the working poor deserve respect and dignity, the Workers' Center provides advocacy and training throughout the region. You can read more about their work and recent updates: The West Virginia United Caucus is all about labor organizing. A caucus of rank-and-file AFT-WV and WVEA members, they are dedicated to creating a more democratic union with increased participation. WV United drives union participation, activating public education employees to get involved — leading successful strikes in 2018 and 2019 and establishing the reporting protocol during the COVID-19 pandemic. |
We are proud and honored to call both of these organizations Groundwork grantees. ICYMI: our grantees receive multi-year financial commitments that are unrestricted — because we know that the organizers on the ground know what's most needed to reach and impact their communities.
We are currently accepting applications for our next round of grants. We need your support to provide financial resources to more organizations like Mississippi Workers' Center and West Virginia United Caucus in the near future. Donate now.
Also, happy belated Labor Day!
