Dear friend,
I hope you are doing well! The district work period is a time to work in the community, meet with local advocates, and other vital outreach. This past month, I was in Milwaukee, discussing issues ranging from supporting our veterans to STEM education and research. See what I’ve been up to in this newsletter!
The fight for the eight-hour workday happened in Milwaukee, and I was thrilled to join LaborFest this year, where we received a special visit from President Biden!
The White House's Infrastructure Law Coordinator, Mitch Landrieu, visited Milwaukee and saw firsthand how this vital legislation will remove lead pipes and create jobs. These investments will help rid our communities of this toxin, so all of our children can have clean drinking water.
The American Legion’s 103rd National Convention came to Milwaukee! The American Legion has always been there for veterans, working to ensure they receive the care and support they need. There was much to celebrate, including the PACT Act being signed into law. I will continue being a partner with American Legion to meet the needs of veterans and their families.
Community projects are an opportunity for members of Congress to help invest in our districts and the organizations who are helping residents. I was so proud to secure funding for the Benedict Center’s Sisters program, which helps women in the street-based sex trade/sex trafficking start a new life for themselves.
Not only does the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) have cutting-edge technology, which I saw firsthand during my tour, they offer programs to help K-12 students build a passion for STEM. The innovative research and education happening at the MSOE will support a talented STEM workforce.
I was honored to receive an award from the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids at the African American Women’s Center. I got my start as an activist at an early age, and it was wonderful to see so many young people committed to building a tobacco-free world and protecting their communities.
August 5th marked the tenth anniversary of the shooting at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek. I joined Oak Creek in remembering this anniversary and honoring the lives of those we lost on that day. Their memories will always stay with us.
I was proud to stand with Journey House as this vital anchor in our community received financial support to continue their life-changing work lifting residents out of poverty.
