Friend,
As a former teachers’ union organizer, and as the son of a Caterpillar factory machinist who walked the picket line when I was a baby, I know the power of organized labor in this country.
The labor movement built the middle class, delivered universal workplace protections and benefits, and continues to fight for working families today. At Ground Game Texas, we are proud to be a partner in that fight.
Across Texas, we’re fighting for progressive change that will benefit working families—from increases to local wages, to good-paying green jobs, to ending the criminalization of marijuana that too often targets working class Americans. We like to call it “workers, wages, and weed.”
Friend, with income inequality at an all-time high, and workers unionizing at places like Starbucks and Amazon, support for labor is at a 57-year high. Across the country, working families are fed up with low pay, limited benefits, and the wealthiest few making record profits.
The labor movement is on the rise. And for states like Texas, it couldn’t come soon enough. The minimum wage in Texas is just $7.25. Our state has the highest uninsured rate in the nation. According to CNBC, Texas ranks 49th in the nation for best places to work and live.
Thank you and Happy Labor Day,
Mike Siegel
