Democrat,
Rep. Jeff Van Drew made the decision to abandon our party, our values, and our Constitution to score political points with Donald Trump. This week, Governor Murphy went live on CNN to talk about Rep. Van Drew’s party switch and how we will work to bring real Democratic representation to the 2nd District. Click here to read the recap of Governor Murphy’s CNN interview.
Simply put, Rep. Van Drew has cut and run. He put politics ahead of the Constitution in hopes of keeping his status as a Congressman, no matter the cost, and did a grave disservice to the constituents who worked hard to elect a Democrat who would fight for our values.
Gov. Murphy and I are confident that a Democrat will take Van Drew’s seat in 2020 because he betrayed his constituents and jumped ship in an attempt to help President Trump. When Democrats stick to their values and stay true to the issues they’re elected on - like improving healthcare, gun reform, and family leave - we can win tough seats like this one.
It’s important to remember that Jeff Van Drew does not speak for our delegation. Representatives Mikie Sherrill, Josh Gottheimer, Tom Malinowski, and Andy Kim are all standing strong on impeachment despite representing competitive districts, because they recognize that holding the President accountable is bigger than politics.
We need to remember those who had the courage to put politics aside and vote to put a stop to Trump’s corrupt, lawless administration. I want to thank these Democrats, their colleagues in our caucus and Speaker Pelosi for doing the right thing.
Add your name to stand against Rep. Van Drew’s decision to abandon New Jerseyans and join the Trump administration.
Sincerely,
Chairman John Currie
