Judge Authorizes Use of Special Master to Review Documents Taken from Mar-a-Lago in FBI Raid

CNBC: A federal judge on Monday authorized the appointment of a special master to review records seized from former President Donald Trump’s Florida residence by the FBI in a raid last month, a move that had been sought by his lawyers. Judge Aileen Cannon at the same time temporarily blocked the Department of Justice from reviewing or using the seized material for investigative purposes, until the special master’s examination of the documents is completed, or until a further court order. Cannon said her order would not impede an ongoing review of classified documents found at Trump’s residence and the assessment of any possible damage on U.S. intelligence by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (CNBC). Daily Wire: According to the inventory list, agents removed material from Trump’s office and a storage room consisting of classified documents and records and more mundane objects such as “clothing/gift” items, books, and printouts of news articles (Daily Wire). Scott MacFarlane: Judge requests Justice Dept and Trump team produce list of “special master” candidates by Friday (Twitter).

Former FBI Agent Buried Vital Information Regarding Hunter Biden’s Laptop

New York Post: Timothy Thibault, the FBI agent alleged to have interfered with an investigation into Hunter Biden, was assigned by the Washington Field Office as “point man” to manage whistleblower Tony Bobulinski, the first son’s former business partner, before the 2020 election — but he suppressed his damning revelations, sources say. Bobulinski spent over five hours secretly being interviewed by the FBI on Oct. 23, 2020, about his inside knowledge of then-presidential candidate Joe Biden’s involvement in his son’s business deals with China. But his evidence appears to have fallen into the same black hole at the FBI as Hunter’s laptop, never to be seen again (New York Post). Daily Wire: After the interview, Bobulinski and his lawyer were given Thibault’s cellphone number and told he would advise them on the next steps. But neither Bobulinski nor his lawyer was ever contacted by Thibault, and Bobulinski was never brought in to testify before a Delaware grand jury investigating Hunter Biden (Daily Wire). Tippinsights: A whopping 79 percent of Americans suggest President Donald Trump likely would have won reelection if voters had known the truth about Hunter Biden’s laptop (Tippinsights).

Governor Newsom Signs Fast Act Allowing a Government Board to Set Wages for Fast Food Workers in California

Wall Street Journal: A government-appointed council could increase wages for California’s estimated half-million fast food workers to as much as $22 an hour starting next year, under a new law signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom Monday. The law, known as the Fast Act, will establish a first-in-the-nation state council tasked with setting minimum wage standards in California for the entire industry, which relies heavily on the franchise business model and which labor advocates claim has long been plagued with wage theft and other worker abuses (Wall Street Journal). OC Register: Co-author and Los Angeles Assemblymember Miguel Santiago on Monday said the measure would create “a system of fairness and respect for over 550,000 frontline fast-food workers throughout California while ensuring fast food businesses continue to thrive.” Restaurant owners and franchisers cited an analysis they commissioned by the UC Riverside Center for Economic Forecast and Development saying that the legislation would increase consumers’ costs. Newsom’s administration also feared the measure would create “a fragmented regulatory and legal environment” (OC Register).

Biden’s Top Climate Advisor Resigns, Replaced by John Podesta

Politico: Gina McCarthy, President Joe Biden’s top domestic climate adviser, will leave the White House on Sept. 16, just weeks after Congress passed the largest-ever U.S. law to tackle climate change — legislation that her office helped craft. McCarthy’s exit will leave Biden without one of his climate policy heavyweights as his administration moves on to the next phase of its climate fight: developing executive actions and regulations that can survive the partisan power shifts and Supreme Court scrutiny that have derailed previous Democratic climate plans (Politico). ABC: Longtime Democrat John Podesta, who served as President Bill Clinton’s chief of staff, was a senior adviser to President Barack Obama, and managed Hillary Clinton’s 2016 White House bid, will oversee the implementation of the climate and energy provisions of Democrats’ recently passed Inflation Reduction Act while also chairing the President’s National Climate Task Force, according to the White House (ABC).

Chile Voters Reject Far-Left Constitution Dealing Massive Blow to Extreme Leaders

Axios: Voters in Chile on Sunday rejected a progressive constitution that would have drastically changed the country. It’s a major blow to leftist President Gabriel Boric and his supporters who championed the draft text, which would have enshrined reproductive, education, housing and Indigenous rights. It would have also required the country set up a national health care system, and made addressing climate change a constitutional state duty. Official figures show that with 99.99% of votes counted on Sunday evening, 61.86% of voters rejected the change (Axios). Daily Wire: The extreme Constitution would have also eliminated the country’s Senate, something that many on far-left want to happen in the U.S… The country’s rejection of the new Constitution is a major setback for new far-left President Gabriel Boric, whose ruling coalition includes members of Chile’s Communist Party. Boric announced during a speech a few months ago his intent to completely ban his citizen’s ability to protect themselves by owning firearms (Daily Wire).

Liz Truss to Take Up the Mantle of Prime Minister in Britain

Wall Street Journal: U.K. Foreign Secretary Liz Truss won the race to lead the ruling Conservative Party and become Britain’s next prime minister, taking the helm of a nation heading into an economic storm. Ms. Truss, 47, will formally replace Boris Johnson as prime minister on Tuesday. The new prime minister faces a daunting array of challenges. The U.K. economy is spiraling toward recession as inflation ramps up (Wall Street Journal). Time: From everything Truss has said on the campaign trail, it is clear that she is “broadly continuity Johnson,” says Gavin Barwell, a former Conservative minister and chief of staff to ex-Prime Minister Theresa May. On matters of foreign policy, Truss is in lockstep with her predecessor, especially when it comes to support for Ukraine. On economic policy, however, Truss advocates for tax cuts and offers a perhaps far more divergent view in some areas—particularly when it comes to social spending, where Johnson had bucked his party’s views on limited government (Time).

Dmitry Medvedev Accuses US of Provoking Russia’s Breakup

Associated Press: A top Russian official accused the U.S. and its allies on Saturday of trying to provoke the country’s breakup and warned that such attempts could lead to doomsday. Dmitry Medvedev, the deputy secretary of Russia’s Security Council chaired by President Vladimir Putin, warned the West that an attempt to push Russia toward collapse would amount to a “chess game with Death.” After attending Saturday’s farewell ceremony for former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, Medvedev published a post on his messaging app channel, referring to the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union and accusing the U.S. and its allies of trying to engineer Russia’s breakup… Medvedev concluded by saying that Russia’s nuclear arsenals are “the best guarantee of safeguarding the Great Russia” (Associated Press). HotAir: The west isn’t looking to collapse the Russian state. We’re trying to force them into withdrawing from Ukraine and restoring what used to pass for normal in that part of the world. Unfortunately, this “economic warfare” plan we cooked up doesn’t seem to have been very effective thus far (HotAir).

Energy Secretary Granholm Supports California Banning Sales of New Gas-Powered Cars

Just after the law was signed, state officials begged citizens not to charge their EV’s due to electrical grid strain. Fox News: Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm says she backs regulations California’s state government approved in August banning the sale of new gas-powered cars after 2034. Granholm answered a question about the new law, saying she backed it and commending California for “leaning in” on climate policy, during an interview with Los Angeles reporter Elex Michaelson. She noted President Biden’s informal commitment to ensure 50% of all U.S. car sales are electric by 2030 (Fox News). RNC Research: Biden Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm says California’s ban on gas-powered vehicle sales is a model for the rest of the country (Twitter).
