IRS commissioner offer little reassurance to taxpayers <[link removed]> – The threat stems from the stress caused by the increased possibility of an audit, the
expense of an audit, and the difficulty of complying with a tax code so complex that five tax experts could provide five equally legitimate opinions on what is owed to Uncle Sam. Historically, the majority of individual audits have targeted those with less than $75,000 in <[link removed]> reported adjusted gross
income. The total number of audits targeting S corps, sole proprietors, pass-through entities, and partnerships exceeds those targeting large C corps. Make no mistake, even if the suggested $400,000 threshold were to be observed, small businesses would incur a substantial audit risk. Many businesses with just a few employees take in more than $400,000 — even if only a slim profit results due to tight margins. Heritage Expert: Joel Griffith <[link removed]>

Carson v. Makin Closed the Book on Religious Discrimination in School Choice <[link removed]> - For decades, the Supreme Court has faced questions about the use of public benefits by religious organizations or individuals. With Carson v. Makin, the Court made a clear pronouncement on the First Amendment’s protection of religious expression within the context of school choice. Whether public benefits are used for religious instruction or for schools with a religious status, Carson established that the Constitution does not permit, let alone require, the government to discriminate against expressions of faith. The Court also clarified that families may exercise their religious beliefs by using public benefits to send their children to religious schools without running afoul of the Constitution’s Establishment Clause. Carson was a victory for parents, for religious liberty, and for school choice. The Federal Gov’s Bungled Census Is Bad News for Red States. Here’s Why <[link removed]> - Ordering the Census Bureau to conduct another actual recount in the 14 affected states would be a complex, expensive undertaking that would provide numbers on a different date than the original
census whose population totals from April 1, 2020, would still be in effect for the rest of the states, raising fundamental fairness issues given the high mobility of our population. And ordering a new census of the entire nation also seems impractical. But there is no question Congress needs to get to the bottom of what happened. It must use its oversight authority to investigate the Census Bureau, its methods, procedures and operations to determine how and why these errors happened. We have to ensure that the necessary changes are made that won’t allow this to happen again. Heritage Expert: Hans von

Could a return of the lost workers avert a recession? <[link removed]> -
Policymakers could help increase employment among young workers by expanding alternative education options—including reviving Industry Recognized Apprenticeship Programs—and by making welfare work-oriented. And to help increase employment among older workers, policymakers should protect flexible, independent work opportunities that allow people to be their own bosses. They also should eliminate Social Security’s retirement earnings test, which discourages older Americans from working. Current policies to spend more, tax more, regulate more, and produce less will only make labor shortages and inflation worse. But it’s not too late for policymakers to minimize the severity of the current economic downturn by removing government-imposed barriers to work and by getting the federal government’s fiscal house in order. It’s Time for Corporate Media to Tell the Truth About America’s Crime Problem <[link removed]> – Department of Homeland
Security Secretary Mayorkas apparently shares Biden’s belief that borders should be open to virtually all comers. They have instructed border agents to process known arrivals (who often have no proof of identity) on a mass scale and move them quickly into the interior, with no notice to local communities or officials. Meanwhile, another 900,000 have entered the country over the last two fiscal years without seeing any U.S. officials at all. Many of these “gotaways” are criminals, and some are known or suspected terrorists. Americans should not have to absorb this risk. Just as rogue prosecutors who favor letting violent, incorrigible, repeat offenders out of jail in the interests of “social justice” should stand behind their policies, Biden and Mayorkas shouldn’t be able to hide from the consequences of their border nihilism with the collusion of the press. National media outlets have a duty to inform the public so that voters know the facts about criminals — including immigration status — to hold elected officials accountable. Hiding relevant information from readers and viewers puts ideology ahead of public safety and betrays a fundamental principle of journalism. Heritage Expert: Simon Hankinson <[link removed]>
