Labor Day is a reminder of all the labor movement has accomplished for workers — and the work still at hand.

Growing up, my father was a lineman and a member of IBEW. His good-paying union job provided me the opportunity to go to college and gave my parents a stable retirement.

It’s why I stand with unions and fight in the Senate to create jobs, fair pay, and better conditions for hardworking New Mexicans and folks across the country.

I proudly helped pass the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act into law to help create good-paying union jobs and boost our economy. I helped secure funding through the American Rescue Plan to build a healthcare workforce training program. I’ve also worked on legislation to create jobs with a two-generation approach to ending poverty — supporting career pathways for parents and education opportunities for children. And I will never stop pushing to pass legislation that continues to secure fair wages and strengthens the right to unionize.

We’re seeing huge movements for workers’ rights in our country. After a long decline in union membership, workers across the country are organizing at a higher rate than they have in decades — petitions to unionize shot up 57% in the first half of the year.

We need to match that energy by fighting for policies that support workers at every level of government.

That’s why I’m proud to support strong Democrats in New Mexico who have earned the endorsements of labor unions and organizations — including Gabe Vasquez, who’s running in a competitive red-to-blue race in New Mexico’s 2nd District to keep the House blue; Maggie Toulouse Oliver, who’s ready to keep fighting to protect voting rights as Secretary of State; and Tara Jaramillo, who’s determined to create more job opportunities and support for local small businesses as the representative for State House District 38.

We can elect folks up and down the ballot who will strengthen unions and workers’ rights. But we need your support so we can invest in these races and win. Will you split a donation between my campaign and my Lobo Leadership Fund to help elect strong, union-endorsed candidates?
