Friends -
In 1996, Congress stripped the federal funding for gun violence research from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). For more than 20 years, funding for gun violence research was virtually absent despite the rapid increase in gun deaths.
However, that's changing starting this week.
Congress just agreed to allocate $25 million in gun violence research investments in a government funding bill for the first time in over two decades.
It is critically important for our lawmakers to allow researchers to study root causes of gun violence and evaluate the best solutions to save lives. That's where you come in:
Will you make a $3 contribution today and help us urge the House to pass this bill and fund gun violence research for the first time in 20+ years?

For far too long, Congress put the political agenda of the gun lobby over our nation's public health and safety.
But today, with outraged Americans demanding solutions to gun violence and a new gun safety majority elected to the House of Representatives, change is happening.
This investment in gun violence prevention research will shine a bright light on and help solve one of our nation's most deadly problems.
Let this be the year that we take a big step towards discovering meaningful solutions to ending gun violence.
We are in this together,
The team at Giffords
