I hope you’re gathering with family and friends this holiday. But I also hope that today, you take a moment to recognize the contributions American workers have made to build the foundation of our nation and our economy.

As a legislator, I’ve helped workers here in Colorado by giving local municipalities the ability to increase their own minimum wage and supported a ballot measure that tied our state minimum wage to inflation. But we need to do more.

Colorado deserves leaders in Congress who are fearless advocates for workers so we can build a country that actually rewards hard work, together.

I am a proud supporter of workers and union rights, and the work we have done here in Colorado, including giving state employees the right to collective bargaining. And I’m proud to have the endorsement of SEIU 105. But our work is far from over.

The federal minimum wage hasn’t been changed since 2009, when it was raised to just $7.25. We know there aren’t enough hours in the day for anybody to get by on $7.25 an hour.

Folks, it’s been 13 years since the federal minimum wage has been raised. That’s far too long.

Families shouldn’t have to work multiple jobs while still struggling to put food on the table and a roof over their head.

If elected to Congress, I will take every opportunity to expand labor rights and to fight for a higher minimum wage.

As legislators, it’s our moral imperative to create a more just and equitable society. Nobody who works 40 hours a week should be living in poverty. We are going to raise the minimum wage to a living wage.
