Happy Labor Day, John!!
Labor Day is a day to celebrate workers and reflect on the many victories of our labor movement. San Francisco workers are the heart of our city, and today I’m appreciative to them and to the labor unions who fight for fair treatment, good working conditions and a livable wage for these hard-working San Franciscans.
Throughout my time on the Board of Supervisors, I’ve worked hard to center the needs of working San Franciscans, and I’m both humbled and honored to have the support of labor groups, including the San Francisco Labor Council, as I head into my re-election campaign. If you’re interested in learning more, I’ve included a link here to my list of local labor endorsers. SEE SHAMANN'S LABOR ENDORSEMENTS » I want to thank SF labor groups for all they have done to promote the right to organize. Their efforts show just how powerful we can be when we all work together. Because of their hard work, thousands of workers in San Francisco today benefit from better wages, working conditions and lives.
Supporting labor is about more than just rhetoric—as President of the Board of Supervisors, I worked with local companies to expand mandatory local hiring to programs which promote economic growth right here in San Francisco. I’ve also created the Work Force and Recovery Fund for the City College of San Francisco which supports job and vocational training.
I have always wanted to be an advocate for all the hardworking San Franciscans and those who commute to our city and support us as workers here. It means a lot to know that local labor groups support me too. SEE SHAMANN'S LABOR ENDORSEMENTS » Today, and every day, we must take a minute to think about the contributions and hard work of the millions of workers across the country. Enjoy the three-day weekend!
Gratefully,
Shamann Walton
