Team,
This Labor Day, I’m proud to reflect on the role unions have played in shaping our nation’s history.
Most Americans now work in clean, well-lit, well-ventilated, air-conditioned workplaces, thanks to the workplace protections unions advocated for. They’ve also fought for the 40-hour work week, fair wages, workplace safety, family leave, the right to collective bargaining, and prosperity for hard-working families.
You may not know this about me, but I've been a card-carrying member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 441 for over 20 years.
As a former labor lawyer and a founding member of the Labor and Working Families Caucus, I know what it means to be on the side of workers. Throughout my time in Congress, I've fought to implement a pro-labor agenda that will help hard-working families across the country.
I will continue to fight for legislation that benefits working people like raising the minimum wage, increasing project labor agreements, and expanding the National Labor Relations Act.
So today, I hope you’ll take a moment to appreciate the way labor unions have built a better country for all of us and recommit to supporting unions year-round.
Happy Labor Day!
Linda
