Today, as we celebrate the achievements of the American worker, I hope you will join me in recognizing the many contributions made by millions of workers every day in order to strengthen our economy and our country. 

Labor Day was established in the late nineteenth century at the urging of labor activists in order to recognize the great impact American workers have on our society. 

As I celebrate this Labor Day with friends and fellow community members throughout the Central Coast, I am reminded of the rights and privileges we enjoy today because of the many labor activists who made them possible, and am thankful for their hard fight.

I hope you will join me in acknowledging our local labor force today, and are able to celebrate this holiday safely and responsibly with friends and loved ones.
