Happy Labor Day! Since 1882, working people in America have taken Labor Day to honor not just the work they’ve done, but the battles they’ve won.
History has proven over and over again the power of organized labor. That’s why I promise you I will never stop fighting for a better life for us all. Today and every day, I'm proud to honor, celebrate, and stand shoulder to shoulder with working people across America.
Without labor unions, we wouldn't have the weekend, overtime pay, workplace safety rules, and laws protecting against child labor — and that’s just scratching the surface. Working people have secured every major labor law we have in America, and this is just the beginning.
When it gets tough, I look back on those victories, and remember the power we have when we come together. We’re so close to passing major, transformational protections for workers – and we won’t stop until they’re law.
In a moment, I’m going to lay out our roadmap to victory, but first I have to ask:

So here’s what we’re going to do:
- After over a decade, it’s beyond time to #RaiseTheWage. In 2014, I pushed to make Seattle the first major city in the country to pass a $15 minimum wage. Since then, cities and states across the country have followed suit, with Republican and Democratic leaders.
In the next two years, we must fight to pass the Raise the Wage Act, increase pay for 32 million workers, and lift one million Americans out of poverty.
- Ensure the Senate passes the PRO Act to protect working people across America. The Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act will empower workers to unionize, and bargain for better wages and working conditions, hold corporations accountable for union-busting, and repeal so-called “right to work” laws.
I was proud to be a lead sponsor of the PRO Act in the House, where we passed it last year. Now it’s the Senate’s turn, and I won’t stop fighting until this bill reaches President Biden’s desk.
The fearmongers will try to tell us we’re too radical, that our demands are impossible, that they come at too high a cost, that they hurt small businesses, that people will lose jobs. We only need to look at my hometown Seattle to prove them wrong.
