I want to wish you a Happy Labor Day, friend.

I grew up in a proud union home, and I saw firsthand how our labor force is the backbone of our city. It's the health care workers, teachers, first responders, food service and hospitality workers, sanitation workers, and postal workers who show up day in and day out to keep the wheels spinning around Los Angeles.

I want to take a moment to thank all the workers who have stepped up to keep our city running as we’ve dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. I know that so many of you have been pushed to the limits and are actively fighting for better wages and working conditions. You are not alone in this fight.

I'm proud our campaign is endorsed by labor leaders like the L.A. County Federation of Labor, the National Union of Healthcare Workers, the Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters, the United Teachers Los Angeles, Dolores Huerta and the United Farm Workers, and dozens of other local and national labor organizations: [link removed]. I’ve also received a 99% lifetime score with the AFL-CIO for my pro-labor voting record (one of my proudest achievements).

We’ve seen a resurgence of union support and labor organizing in the last couple of years. History has shown us that the will and power of the people are inevitable. When we fight for what we deserve, we WIN. That's why we need to continue to advocate for policies and leaders that will actively protect the rights and livelihoods of Los Angeles’ workforce.

I have spent my career fighting for the most vulnerable among us, and I will continue that work in my role as mayor. Today, and every day, I hope you'll join me in respecting, protecting, and supporting Los Angeles workers.
