Dear John,
Western Pennsylvania is hallowed ground for the labor movement. From the 1909 McKees Rocks Strike of immigrant workers that shook the world, to Steelworkers at J&L in Aliquippa taking their organizing fight all the way to the Supreme Court, and so many more hard-fought battles, workers around here have forged our region’s identity through blood, sweat, and tears.
And today, on Labor Day, we honor the labor movement in America and rededicate ourselves to standing strong for the union way of life.
There will be parades and parties across the country today to honor and celebrate workers, no bigger than western PA’s own Labor Day Parade. Let’s take this moment to recommit to fighting for the dignity that every worker has earned.
That dignity demands that every worker enjoy the freedom to form and join a union, free from union busting and intimidation, and a good-paying job that recognizes the dignity of their work.
I will fight every single day in Washington for workers and unions. I know the heavy burden that workers must bear to form a union – I was part of the Pitt Faculty Organizing Committee with the United Steelworkers when we fought successfully for a union.
Corrupt politicians and the mega corporations that fund them don't care about unions, workers, and working families. No more profits over people, no more screwing over workers, no more outsourcing jobs to China and all over the planet to squeeze out a few more pennies in profit on the backs of hard-working Americans. We should be making things in this country, we should be making them with union workers, and we should be making them right here in western Pennsylvania.
When I’m in Congress, workers will always come first – and I’m proud to be the union-backed candidate, with the backing of countless workers and unions across western Pennsylvania to prove it. They can count on me to never forget about the folks that built this country.
This Labor Day, if you’re ready to stand up to corporate power and fight for workers alongside me, then I hope you’ll take a second to chip in to my people-powered campaign.
In solidarity,
Chris
