John
Today is a day for us all to acknowledge and thank the labor movement – and to reflect on how far we still have to go.
Every right and benefit we’ve come to take for granted has come because of our brothers and sisters in labor. Unions are responsible for the minimum wage, Social Security and the five day work week.
I’m a proud union grandson – my grandfather was a state police officer and my grandmother taught public school for thirty years here in Central New York – and I credit unions for all of the values I learned as I grew up.
It’s why I’ve been endorsed by multiple unions, and why I will go to Congress and fight every day with labor and workers in mind.
Today, we acknowledge educators, transportation workers, hospitality workers, food workers, electricians, steelworkers, letter carriers, iron workers, healthcare workers, public employees, and many others. These essential workers keep our country running. And they were critical in keeping our families fed, our children educated, and our communities functioning during the pandemic.
This Labor Day, I recommit myself to the goals of the labor movement and recommit myself to being an ally and advocate of workers across this district and across this country.
Thank you,
Francis
