Folks,

I hope you’re all enjoying this well-deserved day off. I promise I won’t take up too much of your time, but I want to share my thoughts on this Labor Day.

For over a century, Labor Day has been a celebration of the incredible strides American workers have made. 40-hour weeks, paid holidays, worker’s comp, unions – all of it was hard-fought and hard-won. And the fight is far from over.

This year has been a remarkable one for workers. Employees at some of the nation’s biggest companies are risking their jobs to demand safe, fair, and dignified working conditions. I’m proud to stand by those courageous folks today, and every day.

That’s why I’m fighting in Congress to raise the federal minimum wage to ensure that every working American can cover their basic needs. I’m also proud to be an ally to the unions of IL-06, and I’ll continue to defend their place at the negotiating table.

So, while you’re celebrating today, remember the folks who stood (and continue to stand) on the picket lines in hopes of a better future for themselves and for you.

– Sean
