John,

On Labor Day, many of us have an opportunity to spend time with friends and family for a holiday weekend. This is only possible because of our brothers and sisters in the Labor movement who have fought so tirelessly for so long for us all.

Unions across this country and right here in Pennsylvania delivered us a minimum wage, weekends, laws and agencies to keep workplaces safe, and so much more — and they're continuing to fight for workers each and every day.

Because the fight isn't over, and we must stand shoulder-to-shoulder and side-by-side with our partners in the labor movement as we continue to fight for paid leave, access to affordable child care, and a living wage for everyone.

As a doctor, I've seen firsthand how important safe staffing ratios are for nurses and other medical personnel. I've met with long-term care facility and home care professionals who struggle to deliver the high-quality care they have been trained to provide while making near-poverty wages. And I've known plenty of parents who were forced to make difficult choices about child care when they ran out of paid or unpaid leave at work.

I know that Pennsylvania is stronger, and our country is stronger when we have our workers' voices at the decision-making table. That's why I'm working to support Josh Shapiro for governor, John Fetterman for U.S. Senate, and Democrats up and down the ballot who are committed to protecting a worker's right to organize and will fight for better benefits and conditions for workers across our Commonwealth.

Every worker deserves a safe, equitable workplace and the right to join a union. Period. This November, let's show we stand with our workers. If you haven't yet, make a plan to vote: [link removed]

With gratitude,

Val
