Happy Labor Day, Team.
For many Michiganders, this weekend symbolizes the shift from summer to fall and one final long weekend to enjoy outdoor activities. However, Labor Day symbolizes something more critical: the labor movement of America.
Today, we honor the hard work and dedication of the labor movement that has forever changed the workforce we see today. We can thank the labor movement for the 40-hour work week, health care and retirement benefits, safe working conditions, increased wages, safe nurse-to-patient ratios — the list goes on.
There is still so much work to be done, but this Labor Day is a day to honor the hard-working men and women of America who show up every day to keep society moving forward as we build back better as a nation. Today, we honor and celebrate them.
In Michigan, workers are critical to our success as a state and I will tirelessly fight for the rights of workers, activists, and citizens. These hard-working Michiganders have been the backbone of communities across the state — today we honor their resilience and dedication.
Happy Labor Day,
-Debbie
