Hi John,
I don’t know about you, but perhaps like me you’ve been watching the Conservative leadership contest feeling like we’re about to go from bad to worse as Liz Truss has climbed up the polls. And now she's just been announced as prime minister – all while we’re heading top speed into a worsening cost of living crisis and climate emergency.

Truss is a free market extremist, who wholeheartedly believes that the best thing to do is hand the essentials of society, like healthcare or education, over to big business. But politics like these only give corporations more power and wealth.

Here in the UK, so many are struggling with difficult decisions about whether to eat or pay their bills. And around the world, millions are facing poverty, inequality and climate breakdown. This is set to get worse with someone who undoubtedly won’t stand up for people and planet but will back big business.

It’s times like these when it’s most important that we come together to fight for what we believe in. That’s why I’m emailing today, to ask if you can spare £3 a month to join Global Justice Now as a member?
Yes, I'll join
We understand that not everyone can afford to donate at this time. But if you are in a position to, now is the time to strengthen our campaigns with Liz Truss in power.

Together we can push back against policies that will wreck the environment and leave people destitute, both here and around the world. We’ve done it before and we can do it again.

Don’t let our government ignore the climate emergency

It’s urgent we come together and are ready to take action on climate; we don’t have a moment to lose. Yet Liz Truss has given no indication that she even recognises it’s an emergency. This is unbelievable after the hottest and driest summer we’ve seen for 50 years and now terrifying monsoons in Pakistan.

Truss’s ‘solution’ to the energy crisis seems to be to expand oil and gas drilling in the North Sea and fracking across the UK. Yet all this will do is accelerate global warming and bolster fossil fuel corporations. We can’t let this happen.

It’s vital that together we stand against policies that worsen the climate emergency. Those in the global south have been experiencing climate-related catastrophes for years. People’s lives are at stake – there isn’t time for ludicrous policies like these. Please join us to stand together against them.

Keep standing up for people’s rights

It’s not just the climate crisis that’s at stake. From David Cameron to Theresa May and Boris Johnson, successive Conservative governments have increasingly made life miserable for migrants, and vastly added to the stress of people seeking refuge in the UK. This is only set to get worse under Liz Truss.

In June, campaigners and lawyers managed to stop the first flight deporting those seeking asylum in the UK to Rwanda. The verdict in that legal challenge is expected today. But our new prime minister has said she wants to extend these flights as well as upping border force staff.

It is shocking that our government feels such an inhumane and cruel practice is acceptable. Now, we have to fight back even harder. Please join today to stand up for the rights of those seeking a safer life here.

Only by standing together can we make change

Along with people like you, we’ve lobbied Liz Truss before and seen some campaign wins. While she was international trade minister, we were fighting to stop corporate courts being in the UK-Australia trade deal and the UK-Canada one. Together we successfully got the government to back down on these plans which would have handed more power over to big business and put their interests first.

We know that Liz Truss will be backing a corporate trade agenda. But we’ve seen that if we push hard enough, and shout loud enough we can stop policies like these and make change. Together, we can create enough public pressure that our government has to change course. For people here and around the world, and for generations to come, we simply can’t afford not to.

By joining today, you will give our campaigns the boost they need with difficult times ahead. Your regular gift will mean we have the stability to plan into the future and maintain the momentum that will halt destructive policies.

Thank you for considering joining Global Justice Now today, and for all that you do for our campaigns.
